I don’t understand why fines and tickets aren’t based on your income everywhere. The whole point of fines is to punish and deter criminals and gather extra revenue for the government.
It doesn’t make sense to charge like $125 from everyone. Because for some people it means committing a crime means 2-3 less meals that month, and for others committing the same crime is nothing. That’s not how you punish and deter people, that’s how you create a privilege where rich people can afford to be criminals.
Also, if you’re collecting revenue, wouldn’t you want to collect more from those who have more? Milking lower income people dry with stacking bills while charging rich people only once is not how you make money, especially when eventually you’ll have to put the people who struggle to pay in prison and have to spend money on them.
